On December 16, the New York Times published an excellent and informative article by Robert Walker, titled ‘Handmade 2.0’, which included an interview with Robert Kalin, the founder of Etsy. Kalin is quoted as saying “Handmade isn’t a fad, it’s a resurgence, one that is of a piece with the booming interest in organic food.”
That pretty well sums it up….what this whole ‘I Buy Handmade’ revolution is about. It’s about connecting with people on a more personal level & supporting independent artisans/designers/crafters. It’s about quality vs. quantity, craftsmanship vs. mass production. Being a child of the 60’s, it’s encouraging to see the ‘community spirit’ movement re-emerge. It was a good idea then, it’s a good idea now.
So go read the Times’ article, visit Etsy and join the ‘I Buy Handmade’ revolution!
